3 Signs You Need to Hire an Asbestos Removal Company

Most people have heard of the dangers of asbestos but aren’t quite sure what it is and if it may be affecting them. Unfortunately, asbestos exposure is more common than you’d think, and it can occur even if you’re exercising precautions. As a bit of background, asbestos is a flexible, heat-resistant mineral that was frequently used in construction materials due to its durability. Breathing in asbestos fibres can cause long-term health issues, including diseases such as mesothelioma and lung cancer. It’s essential to contact an asbestos removal company as soon as possible if you’re concerned that may have asbestos in your home. Here are three signs that your house may be contaminated with asbestos. The Year That Your Home Was Built Aside from the physical signs of asbestos in your home, the best indicator of whether or not you have asbestos depends on the period of time in which your house was built. In Australia, many homes built prior to 1990 were constructed using products containing asbestos. In 2003, the government enacted a complete ban on asbestos, including its manufacture, use, import, and sale. According to the Department of Health, if your house was built before the mid-1980s, it is highly likely to contain asbestos products. The use of asbestos is also probable if your home was built between the mid-1980s and 1990. You’ve Recently Completed Home Renovations These days, many homeowners prefer to complete repairs themselves, on their own time and budget. However, when you begin demolishing parts of an older home, you’re running the risk of exposing yourself to asbestos. Even just drilling a hole into drywall that [...]

Repair the Roof The quickest solution is to repair a leaking roof. This allows you to take immediate action which is essential because delaying roof repairs will only add extra costs further down the track. Not repairing a leaky roof early can ruin insulation and damage ceilings. Before you go ahead with a roof repair, it's important that you understand the current condition of your roof. Regularly maintaining your roof gives you the chance to spot trouble early. Getting a professional roofing inspection can make your decision to repair or replace your roof much easier. Guttering Sydney

Poor guttering causes more problems in Sydney than any other roofing component. Sydney experiences extremely heavy rain from time to time and unless you have very well designed and installed guttering – you can have a big problem. Overflowing gutters due to blockages, not enough downpipes or simply too much catchment area for the size of gutter can make a real mess. Box gutters are the worst offenders. Box gutters are called box gutters as they are “boxed in”. In other words – unless they have been installed with sufficient overflow capacity (and into a suitable place) when a box gutter overflows – it nearly always causes damage to the inside of your home or premises. Eave gutters are the most common type of gutters on Sydney homes and in theory, as they are on the outside edge of your roof they should not cause too much damage when they overflow. However, if they have not been installed correctly they can also cause significant damage as the water can get into the eave or into the wall. Sometimes this shows up as rising damp or even causes problems with the foundations of the home. At All Roofing Services we take a lot of care in our roof maintenance and whist we are not Hydraulic engineers, we can advise you from experience on what will work and what will not. There are many different solutions to guttering problems including More downpipes, larger gutters, specially designed flashings, overflow outlets, correct fall on the gutter, gutter guard, sumps and rainwater heads. There is nearly always a solution to an overflowing gutter problem. Having [...]

Residential Roof Replacements

All Roofing Services specialises in metal roof replacements on Sydney homes. We can change just about any roof into a new Colorbond or Zincalume roof. Most of our work is domestic re-roofs, but we also do industrial and commercial roof replacements too. ARS has come to specialise in inner-west roof replacements through years of experience. The inner-west of Sydney is a unique place for roofing. Access is often difficult with small lanes (or no lane at all!), the roofs can be steep and high making them dangerous for in-experienced roofers and most homes will usually have at least one extension – which can often be a little unusual in the roofing department! In short – very few roof replacement jobs are the same in the inner west and can often have a few challenges which the inexperienced roofer will struggle with. We have seen new roofs that were probably worse than the one that was replaced – so don’t make the mistake of working out which quote to go with based only on price. Make sure the roofing contractor knows what he is doing. (Asking for local references is one good way to check.) You also need to check what kind of material has been quoted for. There are more and more imported materials these days and whist most of it is probably meets Australian Standards – buying Australian made Colorbond or Zincalume for your new roof is the best way to go. Zincalume comes with a Manufacturer’s warranty of 20 years – and Colorbond is 25 years. These are tried, tested and proven materials for Australian conditions – and [...]

Roof Repair in Sydney

All Roofing Services also specialises in roof repairs in Sydney. Roof repairs can be very simple, extremely difficult or anywhere in between. They can be very successful and sometimes a complete waste of time and money. You would think that roof repairs were generally easier than installing a new roof – well sometimes it is – but often they can be very tricky indeed. Most roof repairs are temporary in nature but they can be done properly. The first step in fixing a leak is to find out exactly what is causing the leak. Finding this can sometimes take longer than doing the actual repair! Basically, if the roofing contractor is not totally sure he found the cause – he probably didn’t and any work that was done was done in vain. Julian Dirou (ARS owner) has developed an exact process for finding and fixing leaks which is being turned into a manual for homeowners and contractors. (Please enquire for a draft copy) Finding the exact cause of the leak cannot be understated in importance. But doing the repairs properly is also very important. Non-standard repairs such as waterproofing materials or loads of sealant on metal roofs is a bad idea and can often end up making the problem worse or create a new problem. Sealants have their place, but the average roof repair man or handyman will tend to go overboard so it is important to get someone who knows what they are doing. The other thing to consider is cost. Yes, a roof repair will generally be cheaper than a roof replacement but why not get a quote [...]
