Recently we were asked to replace the roof and gutters on a large Semi Detached dwelling in Willoughby. The existing roof was a mixture of Zincalume over the newer upstairs extension and Galvanized steel over the original part of the home. There were a number of skylights, almost all of which were problematic to one degree or another causing leaks. The roof was rusting in other places and generally in poor condition overall.

The new roof was to be Southerly colored Bluescope Colorbond , with Monument Coloured Barge cappings, Gutters and Downpipes. New treated pine timber battens and 60mm Knauf Anti-condensation insulation blanket were also installed prior to the new Colorbond roofing.

We started with the more difficult upstairs section, which had three Dormas and 6 valleys on a fairly low pitch. Two skylights were deleted and a third was replaced with a Velux FCM model skylight with custom folded flashings to suit. The barge cappings were also custom made to maintain the detail of the ends of the Dormas.

We then did the steeper section of the roof towards the front which was over the original part of the home. We refited one Velux skylight and replaced an old plastic dome type skylight with a new Velux VCM model skykight. There were also two chimneys in this section, all requiring custom made Colorbond flashings to suit.

The final section was a low pitched Skillion roof over the kitchen area. The skylight here was deleted but two exhaust vents were replaced. Custom Colorbond flashings were again needed to junction the roof to the adjacent wall and wall cladding of the upstairs.

Concurrent to each section getting replaced, we also replaced the gutters and downpipes associated with these sections.
